Founders Nancy Plesha and Jeanne Gartland have found themselves on another journey with “On The Road Again”. Their constant quest for bargain hunting, merchandising, decorating with one-of-a-kind items and meeting new people inspired them to open the doors to On the Road Again.
The two have been co-workers and friends since 1993. They were drawn together in business and found an avenue in quilting to express their creativity away from the office…Hence, their first business, Threadneedle Street, was born.
In September of 1997, they started to look for a place to open a Quilting fabric and Supply store when we saw the old yellow farm house in historic Orland Park with a For Sale sign. They could not get to a phone fast enough to call the number and see the property… Well, what happened next was they became owners of their first commercial property by October 1997.
Getting the shop up and running was NO small task. Nancy and Jeanne sanded, painted, busted up an old tub, rebuilt walls and were ready to open by mid-May of 1998. They were ready to embark on this road to creativity. After almost nine years in business, the two built a very large customer base and were quite successful.
They held outdoor annual quilt shows every labor day weekend, had auctions, retreats, barbecues in the yard. You name it. They tried it. Despite the success of their quaint little shop on the corner, they decided to close their doors in July 2006.
Nancy and Jeanne took a short break and rented the building for 2 years...
THEN their NEW journey began…
Itching to get back into business, the two started brainstorming. They already had a trip planned to go to Sisters, Oregon and the Washington coast. This would prove to be the perfect opportunity to get a business plan in order. With days of sight-seeing mixed with treasure hunting--they landed on a consignment shop.
That consignment shop is now better known as On The Road Again and so are the treasures you will find within its doors.
"We always look forward to meeting you and helping you find the exact treasure you have been looking for… Stop by and say hello soon!"
